About this deal

When Alice and Gemma's birthday comes up it is very emotional for both Gemma and Alice because its thier first birthday apart. In 2007 Jacky Daydream was published, an inspirational true story of how a shy schoolgirl became a superstar author. Jacqueline is also a great reader, and has amassed over 20,000 books, along with her famous collection of silver rings. Gemma gradually starts to rebuild her life without Alice, including establishing her friendship with Biscuits. Everything seems ruined when Alice's father gets a new job hundreds of miles away and the whole family has to move.

I think that this book was really amazing as I'm a BIG fan of Jacqueline Wilson (n I actually mean it! When Alice's dad gets a new job in Scotland, Gemma is distraught and does everything she can to keep Alice for herself, scared that she'll find a new best friend in Scotland and forget all about her. Their friendship is tested when Alice's father takes up a new job opportunity in Scotland and decides to move the family in a plight to raise their living standards for the finer things in life. Sine Alice seemed to move on with her new life in Scotland fine, I didn't feel to sorry for her, but for Gemma I did. Nothing can ever break them apart, but when Gemma sneaks a peek in Alice's Diary their friendship may be crushed. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. This wasn't my favourite JW novel, however, I did appreciate the allusion to other books ( Tracy Beaker and Biscuits from Cliffhanger). Soon, when Alice's family throws a good bye party, and Gemma and her family attend, Gemma brings takes Alice so that they could run away so that she could be with Alice, and that is what gets Gemma and Alice into an enormous amount of trouble. Gemma, one of the two best friends is the loud trouble maker, but still cares very dearly about her best friend Alice. I adore the way Gemma is the toughest girl on the block and is in the school football team whereas Alice is the girl who always is voted for school council or is interested in writing and generally listens, where Gemma is more likely to be talking.

Alice is a quiet and shy girly girl who is the exact opposite of Gemma, and that's why they get along so well. In the book, Alice sends Gemma a birthday card and her charm bracelet with a new charm on it with a note saying they are best friends forever despite no more contact. Gemma receives a birthday card and charm bracelet from Alice reassuring her that despite Alice not being able to contact Gemma any longer, they will remain best friends forever. The girls were very distressed when Alice eventually moved; however they found ways of contacting each other and Gemma jumped at the chance when her grandfather offered to take her to see Alice. I am a huge spoiler so I want to tell you many things I know I shouldn't--but that would spoil the fun, wouldn't it?She is Alice's best friend and is devastated when she learns Alice is moving to Scotland, having seen each other nearly everyday since the cradle. This book would be suitable for upper KS2, ages 9 and up, and is ideal for independent reading rather than reading as a class as it is likely to appeal to girls rather than boys. This book is about two girls who are almost complete opposite to one another, they are best friends but unfortunately one of them moves to Scotland, as they are so upset by this they runaway together but they get cought! This book "best friends" is a delightful and fun story full of new complications at every turn of a page. I have really enjoyed Bad Girls by this author, but two girls who live near each other and share a birthday, grow up with nothing else in common at all, no common interests or behaviour, yet they are best friends.

When Alice's mother tells Gemma's family that they all are moving to Scotland from England because there was a better job for Alice's dad, Gemma is heartbroken. They were born on the same day and seemingly do everything together; however, they do have different personalities which add to their camaraderie. This book is a must read because it is so easy to relate to and really sends a message out to children that things can get better from where they are, you jut need to push through and things will go nicely for you. During Gemma's visit to Scotland Flora is disdainful of Gemma's childish ways and tries to get Alice to do what she wants to do.

Towards the beginning, Gemma is friends with Biscuits which is not so much shared by Alice, but this changes when the running away happened (the disliking for him became mutual), however as time slowly passes she realises what he did was out of care, and he just wants his special friend Gemma to be safe and happy. Gemma and Alice have been best friends since they were both born on the same day in the same hospital. I liked how the author portrays Gemma and Alice; different in personality, lifestyle, interests, almost different in everything, yet they were BEST FRIENDS!
